Sign Check · The Golden Check

The dealership is a process. Most people only see the pitch.

If you walk in unprepared, the visit is designed to keep you on monthly payment, wear you down, and pack extras into the last paper you see. This page is the sequence. Sign Check is the phone tool for that same visit.

Free to read. Not legal, tax, or lending advice. Sign Check Pro is an optional one-time purchase, not a subscription.

How a car deal actually moves

If you only argue monthly payment, you lose the rest of the deal. Walk the visit in this order.

1

Before you go

Know a walk-away out-the-door number, get a credit-union or bank pre-approval, and estimate the trade separately. Research the car’s price before you sit down. The car dealership hidden fees cheat sheet separates tax and registration from optional add-ons.

2

The desk

Ask for a written out-the-door price first. Do not start on payment. Vehicle price, fees, add-ons, term, and APR should be visible as separate lines.

3

The lot pressure

“Today only,” “another buyer,” and long waits are there to tire you out. Fair deals survive overnight. You can leave with the worksheet.

4

Finance office

Warranties, GAP, nitrogen, etching, and paint packages often appear after you think you agreed. Itemize them. Remove anything optional. Compare GAP with your insurer or lender.

5

Paperwork

The contract can differ from the quote: price, term, add-ons, or trade. Read every line before you sign. Verbal promises that are not on paper do not count.

Traps that show up when you are unprepared

Save this page. If you hear the line, you already know the move. These are the same patterns Sign Check tracks in the app. For the fee lines, use the out the door price car calculator.

Monthly payment trap

They lock you onto a payment instead of the full price.

A lower payment can hide a longer loan, a higher APR, or packed fees.

Say: “I want the out-the-door price first, not the monthly.”

Today-only pressure

The deal is only good if you sign now.

Urgency stops comparison shopping. Fair numbers still exist tomorrow.

Say: “If it is fair, I can review it and come back.”

Add-on packing

Warranties and protection packages appear as if they are required.

Optional extras can add thousands in markup.

Say: “Itemize every add-on and remove anything I did not ask for.”

Trade-in confusion

They mix the car price, your trade, and the loan into one conversation.

You cannot tell which number actually moved.

Say: “Separate the vehicle, the trade, and the financing.”

Rate markup

In-house financing is presented as your only option.

A marked-up APR costs more over the life of the loan than a slightly higher payment.

Say: “Show me your best rate in writing. I have outside financing.”

Wear-down

Hours in the box until you just want to leave.

Tired buyers accept worse paper.

Say: “I’m leaving. I only decide when I can review this.”

What Sign Check is

A phone app for the visit: paste or photograph a quote, see price, fees, APR, term, trade, and down payment together, log pressure as it happens, compare two stores, and check the contract against the offer you already reviewed. Share a second-opinion summary before anyone signs.

You do not need to be at a dealership to try it. The app includes a sample deal so you can walk the flow at home. Sign Check is free on Google Play. Sign Check Pro is a one-time purchase.
